Course: Crane Awareness

Description: This course is designed to provide students with basic knowledge of cranes and their operations. Also to assist with identifying functions such as assembly and disassembly requirements for working near power lines, crane load charts, capacity factors, roles and responsibilities for crane setup. 

Course Objective:
The objective of this course is to enable students who work with, near, or around cranes with basic safety knowledge of the various type of cranes and their components. 

Learning Objective: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to :
  • Identify types and configurations of mobile cranes
  • Describe principles of crane operation
  • Read crane load charts
  • Identify crane capacity factors
  • Identify roles and responsibilities for crane setup, assembly and disassembly.
  • Identify requirements for working near power lines.
  • Safely erect, climb, dismantle and transport tower cranes
  • Requirements for hoisting personnel in crane man baskets
  • Identify derricks and other types of cranes
Written Exam: Written and hands-on competency will be evaluated at the end of the course. Incorrectly answered questions will be reviewed with the students to ensure understanding before completion of the course. 

Documentation: Sign in sheets are required to document the number of students that will receive a certificate of completion. Please allow up to 48 hours notice on class sizes greater than 30.
